Ships run ashore.. (as a very popular Greek song goes)

/ /

Vaporetto is located in Ermoupolis, in the noble quarter of “Vaporia” (i.e ships) amidst grand, well-preserved mansions of old Syriot ship-owner families and sea captains. It is situated within the historical centre and a stone’s throw from Ermoupolis’s most popular sights, including Small Venice, where neoclassical buildings are constructed on the rock embracing the waves, the imposing temple of Saint Nicholas, the architectural miracle of the Apollo Theatre, the unparalleled central square with the Town Hall – palace designed by the famous 19th century architect Ernst Ziller. Next to Vaporetto stands the Historical and Folklore Museum, which is housed in Rethimnis Mansion (a ship-owner and benefactor from Kassos), a building of unique architecture.

The cosmopolitan fully-organised all-day beach of Asteria is just a hundred-metre walk from the mansion’s gate.
